MY REVIEW OF MK4 ON THE PC

Well, what can I say.  DO NOT take any of this info seriously.  These are just my opinions.  Others like you may disagree.  So don't let this review change your mind...fully.  MK4 is by far the best MK game ever made.  Compared to MK Trilogy on the PC it's the best game ever created.  It does stink that we don't know any kodes yet so I can't cheat just a little (aww).  There are some bugs and things that I really don't like, and there are other things that are great and make MK4 a great port game.  Below will be the basic five catagories...graphics, sound, gameplay, control, and fun factor.  There will also be extra things that I want to talk about.

GRAPHICS: Is it my computer or me?!  To be honest, if you make the game full screen the graphics are horrible.  You can see the pixels and everything is blury.  If you make the screen small the graphics are better but now you can't see squat.  MK4 doesn't have an option like MK Trilogy to make the game 3/4 of the screen, which I like.  I don't have a 3D card so my graphics are bad.  My computer can handle 3D, but if you have a 3D card then the game will be great.  VooDoo2 would be nice, but $245 is not in my price range.  I don't have Direct3D either so I can't even imporve the graphics a little.  Maybe I'll buy one.  To some it all up, the game is realistic...but the graphics...well...better luck in MK5.

SOUND:  Ahhhh, the fresh crunch of bones.  The "SPLAT" of warm blood.  All so crisp.  The sound in this game is arcade and CD perfect.  Everyone has at least 4 yells.  I swear that Tanya yells "Oh my pride".  All the sounds in the game are excellent and the background music puts you in the groove.  The only two things I don't like is when you are falling into the kontinue pit and when you hit the spikes everyone has the same yell.  It's a guys yell, and even the women use it.  I guess they hit puberty too early.  The other thing is that the music during a fight reaches the end, then starts over or begins a new song (I think).  It's kind of weird with a silence in between the fight.  Other than that, every sound in the game is sweet and clear.  Good job Eurocom!

GAMEPLAY:  This is easy...no...Goro NOOOOOOOO (crunch)!  I'm a wuss and use "VeryEasy" mode.  Everyone is very easy until you reach Goro and he kicks your mortal butt.  I haven't beaten him yet, but I'm sure that once you beat him Shinnok will be easy because this was the case with Shao Kahn; Motaro kills you and Kahn stands there.  But you do need a challenge.  Another thing is if the screen is large then the game is slow, if the screen is small then the game is fast.  Get it?  There is some loading time depending on your CD-ROM speed.  I have a 24X and there is about a 2 second loading time after the VS Screen.  Shinnok does have to load his morphs even though he doesn't turn into the person, he just gets their moves and it says their name.  But it only takes a second.  But every time you switch a screen (ie. MK4 TV Kommercial Intro to the Main Menu) it does have to load for a second.  It loads in the attract mode too, but a second here too. What else...the camera gives you nice shots, but why the helk does it go crazy sometimes and you never see what happens.  It is still cool because on fatalities and some moves the camera will show different angles every time.  Also, sometimes when you get in a corner of a stage pieces of the background get in the way.  I guess they never fixed that.  But, this game is great and is by far better then Virtue Fighter 3 (I hate that game)! :)

CONTROL:  I have the GamePad Pro by Gravis and it works great.  MK4 has very quick response to button presses and the control is very fast making this game really fun.  The recommended controller is the Microsoft SideWinder, but all you really need is a ten button controller.  The combo system has changed and is harder because they stuck in the movements like press Foward+BL, then Up+HP.  Fatalities are very hard to pull off and take alot of skill.  But overall, you have control of the whole game.

FUN FACTOR:  Haha, you cracked his head!  You can spend hours on this game just trying to get everyones cool FMV endings.  Watching the fatalities are great because they are awesome.  Just watching the fights and seeing the new moves and combos is dazzling.  This game packs and real challenge and a hard punch and is the funnest MK ever!  There isn't as much to do in MK4 as in previous MK's because they took out half the stuff, but the new breakers and weapons are great.  But why do people pull out other people's weapons?  I thought each character had their own.  Oh well.  Plus, now it is actually worth watching good fatalities and seeing the FMV endings.  You actually have something to look foward to.  Overall, this game is the best game of the year and deserves to roll in the dough.

OVERALL: (Highest Rating: 5.0)
Graphics: 4.0
Sound: 5.0
Gameplay: 4.5
Control: 5.0
Fun Factor: 4.5

EXTRA COMPLAINTS (KINDA): Goro is too hard!  Quan Chi turns invisible when frozen by Sub-Zero.  Shinnok doesn't morph into the person, he just has the persons moves...why?  The fatalities are too hard!  Why is everyone's voice the same in the kontinue pit?  The camera is crazy.  If the backgrounds aren't interactive, then why are they in my way?  I hate loading time.  Why did you pull out his weapon?  Why is the music stopping in the fight?  Why is this fatality slow?  We need to find the kodes!!!!!!!!!!!!

EXTRA COMMENTS (KINDA):  Nice sound.  Haha, his head hit the screen.  I need wind shield wipers on my screen to get the blood off...and this guy.  This music rocks in my CD player.  Sweet FMV endings!!  Nice bios.  Reptile's fatalities are the best!  That breaker looked painful! What did you say?!  Creepy!  The MK Comic Book rules...and I hate comics.  This is the best MK game ever!!

I HOPE YOU LIKED MY REVIEW OF MK4 ON THE PC.  NOW THAT YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS LIKE MAYBE YOU WILL OR WILL NOT BUY IT.  BUT REMEMBER...THESE ARE JUST MY OPINIONS.  WHAT YOU CHOOSE IS UP TO YOU.
